Posted on behalf of Rachel Uwa, founder of School of Machines
This summer, School of Machines is offering a trilogy of four-week, full-time programs in Berlin, each one a different entry point into reclaiming power: over systems, stories, and our own bodies.
June: Data Cyborg Stories: Investigative Storytelling for Liberation using Data and AI is for anyone who wants to become a better detective on behalf of their community. Using Python, web scraping, AI-assisted research, and visualization tools, participants transform raw data into investigative art, uncovering hidden structures in a media landscape that feels increasingly broken.
July: Creating Alt-Ctrl Games as Feminist Practice asks what happens when we diversify who gets to make the games we play. You'll build alternative controllers, write non-linear narratives, and use the open-source engine Godot to turn play into resistance and personal storytelling.
August: Performative Media as Artistic Practice, Research, and Public Action is about reclaiming your physical presence in a fragmented digital world. Using TouchDesigner and Ableton, performance becomes a personal tool for bravery and public action, not spectacle.
All programs end with a public exhibition, and each is followed by a one-month residency in Berlin Mitte to keep building. No prior experience required, just openness and curiosity.
School of Machines is an independent, artist-led school. Programs are paid, and that's what keeps this work alive and independent. Reduced-price student spots are available, so don't let cost be the first reason you say no.
Come join a community of thoughtful humans who give a damn. 💙
